The Intern Experience

0:00 / 0:00

Program Overview

As an intern, you will see what it is really like to deploy your engineering skills in the automation industry. Whether you are working in Marion or Des Moines, Iowa, you will gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment. Our interns are paired with mentors from day one, ensuring responsive assistance, which complements your classroom experience. Mentors provide job training, guidance, and a helpful ear as you work through your summer with ESCO.

Shared Group Experience

Our interns meet bi-weekly with a program director to build shared group experience. You are invited to provide feedback throughout your internship, so we can customize it to better meet your needs. You will be able to talk with other interns and learn from their experiences too. We incorporate industry tours, team outings, and a group presentation to round off the program.

Work That Matters

Interns work with a variety of control system technologies throughout our program including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI’s), AutoCAD Electrical, and other industry-specific tools and resources, which build on what you are learning at college. You will have the chance to enhance your skills in programming, teamwork, problem-solving, and project management, in addition to expanding your electrical expertise.

Why Students Are So Important

We are fortunate to continue to grow as a company, and as such, seek new talent every year from college students. Our internship program has become a critical component of our recruiting efforts and allows us to foster the development of tomorrow’s automation specialists. Our goal is to expose students to the automation industry while also advocating for meaningful employment in our community, and Iowa as a whole. Our interns are the first ones we turn to when hiring new engineers!

Testimonials

“Overall, I've had a great experience here at ESCO and have really learned a lot. I've also realized a bit more of how I want to steer my focus within Industrial Engineering and what I can see myself doing full time after school.”
Arlette R., Iowa State University, ESCO Intern Summer 2016
“I enjoyed traveling and working on site. It really opened my eyes to the world of automation. I also liked the intern meetings and lunches, getting to know the fellow interns, and developing relationships with them and other employees.”
Grant B., Iowa State University, ESCO Intern Summer 2016
“I have appreciated working at ESCO, and I have learned so much. I would recommend other students to work at ESCO if they were interested in better understanding the automation industry.”
Skylar W., University of Iowa, ESCO Intern Summer 2016
