2024 Summer Internships

We begin our student search in January each year. ESCO Interview Days typically take place in early March. Students living more than 150 miles away may elect to attend a video interview instead of attending onsite. Selected students will be invited to one of our offices for an ESCO Interview Day where they will:

Program Overview

As an intern, you will see what it is really like to deploy your engineering skills in the automation industry. Whether you are working in Marion, Des Moines, or Louisville, you will gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment. Our interns are paired with mentors from day one, ensuring responsive assistance, which complements your classroom experience. Mentors provide job training, guidance, and a helpful ear as you work through your summer with ESCO.

SHARED GROUP EXPERIENCE

Our interns meet weekly with our program director to build shared group experience. You are invited to provide feedback throughout your internship, so we can customize it to better meet your needs. You will be able to talk with other interns and learn from their experiences too. We incorporate industry tours, team outings, and a group presentation to round off the program.

WORK THAT MATTERS

Automation and design interns work with a variety of electrical technologies throughout our program including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI’s), AutoCAD Electrical, and other industry specific tools and resources, which build on what you are learning at college. You will have the chance to enhance your skills in programming, teamwork, problem-solving, and project management, in addition to expanding your electrical expertise.

Staff interns help support the overall business. Accounting, Human Resources, IT, and Marketing all work to provide our technical teams with the support and tools they need to get the job done. Interns work with mentors to learn skills, practices, and techniques related to their fields of study. They participate in project work specific to their college coursework and enhance their overall knowledge in the field.

Why Students Are So Important

We are fortunate to continue to grow as a company, and as such, seek new talent every year from college students. Our internship program has become a critical component of our recruiting efforts and allows us to foster the development of tomorrow’s automation and business leaders. Our goal is to expose students to the electrical and engineering industry while also advocating for meaningful employment in our community, and Iowa as a whole. Our interns are the first ones we turn to when hiring new engineers and staff positions!
